This policy explains how the Skein mobile app (“Skein”, “the app”, “we”) handles your information. The short version: Skein keeps your craft data on your own device and does not collect, transmit, or sell it.

1. Information we collect

We do not collect any personal information. Skein has no user accounts and no analytics or advertising SDKs. The content you create in the app — projects, counters, repeat trackers, notes, tutorial links, yarn and hook stash, gauge entries, and any photos or pattern files you import — is stored only in the app’s private storage on your device. We have no servers and never receive a copy of this data.

2. Device permissions

• Camera — requested only when you choose to take a progress photo. Photos are saved to the app’s private storage on your device. The camera is never used in the background.
• Photos / media — when you add a photo or import a pattern, Android’s system picker lets you select a file; the app copies your chosen file into its private storage. Skein does not browse or read your gallery otherwise.
• Internet — used only by the optional in‑app tutorial video player (a paid feature). When you choose to play a YouTube tutorial inside the app, your device connects to YouTube to stream it. Every other part of Skein works fully offline.

3. Playing tutorial videos (third‑party content)

If you save a YouTube link to a project and play it inside Skein, the video is loaded from YouTube using YouTube’s standard embedded player. In that moment, YouTube and Google may receive your IP address and set cookies, and may collect data as described in their own policies. This only happens when you start a video. See Google’s Privacy Policy and YouTube’s Terms. Skein itself does not send YouTube any information about you.

4. Purchases

Skein offers a one‑time optional “Pro” upgrade. Purchases are processed by Google Play; Skein never sees your payment details. Google handles the transaction and any receipt data under its own terms. We only store a local flag indicating whether Pro has been unlocked on your device.

5. How your data is shared

We do not share, sell, rent, or transfer your data to anyone, because we don’t collect it. The only outbound network activity is streaming a tutorial video you chose to play.

6. Exporting and deleting your data

• Export — you can export your data as a JSON file to a location you choose using your device’s file picker. This is initiated by you and stays on your device/storage; it is not uploaded to us.
• Deletion — you can delete individual items in the app, or remove all data by uninstalling Skein or clearing the app’s storage in your device settings. Because the data lives only on your device, this permanently removes it.

7. Children’s privacy

Skein is a general‑audience crafting app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone.

8. Data security

Your data is stored in Skein’s private app storage, which on modern Android is sandboxed from other apps. As with any app, keeping your device secure (lock screen, updates) is the best protection for the data on it.

9. Changes to this policy

If the app’s data practices change, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Significant changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
